Proposed Urban Boundary Expansion into Ancaster Greenbelt Land

PUBLIC COMMENTS NEEDED BY THURSDAY, JULY 24

The yellow line highlights the area on Sulphur Springs Rd where a developer is proposing to expand Hamilton’s urban boundary into the Greenbelt Area and Niagara Escarpment Plan Area

The City has received an Official Plan Amendment application to expand Hamilton’s urban boundary into the Greenbelt Area and Niagara Escarpment Plan Area by approximately 10 hectares to allow the development of 75 dwellings on a condominium road at 159 and 163 Sulphur Springs Road. Your comments on this proposal are needed by July 24, 2025.

City Planning Staff held a virtual open house information meeting on July 10. If you missed it, the video recording of the meeting, the Staff slide presentation and all the materials submitted by the developers are available at this link.

My Council colleagues and I have been clear that we are unanimously opposed to urban boundary expansions and incursions into the Greenbelt, but your voices are important, too! City Planning Staff are seeking public comments, which will be used to inform their recommendation to the Planning Committee when this proposal goes to Council for a vote in September.

Please send your comments about this development proposal to City Planners by the deadline of July 24, 2025. Email: [email protected].
